Whole Wheat Maple Crackers


Anyone looking for something a little different to package up and give away come the holidays? You are?! Great. Make these and put them in a little container. It would have been fantastic if I had done that and taken a picture of it so you could see how cute it looks, huh? Um…how about next time? I ate most of these before I could package them.



  • 1 ½ cup white whole wheat flour (or just plain ol’ whole wheat is fine)
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • ½ cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut up into squares
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ cup maple sugar (plus more for sprinkling. I found it at Trader Joes! Otherwise you could look at your local health food store)
  • ¼ cup maple syrup (plus more for brushing)
  • 1/3 cup water




 Preheat the oven to 400F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.


Combine the flours, salt and maple sugar in the bowl of a food processor.


Pulse to combine, then sprinkle the butter over the mixture.


Pulse until the mixture resembles course crumbs. Add the water and maple syrup. Pulse again until a very loose dough forms.


Turn out onto a work surface and gather into four balls. Press them into discs, cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.


Roll two of the discs out into 12 inch (ish) rounds. Brush with maple syrup and sprinkle with maple sugar. Transfer to the parchment paper and bake for about 15 minutes or until the dough is brown at the edges and is crispy.


Repeat the rolling and baking process with the other two discs.


Allow to cool, break the crackers into pieces and wrap for gifts or serve to guests!
